Personally I only care for the opinion of Positif, Cahiers, Telerama, Les Inrocks, L'Huma.
The others are the populist and glamour media.

Nuri Bilge Ceylan's press conference and interview for Climates, talks about being an actor (with his real wife, mother and father on set) in his own films : he will not to it ever again. :)
From the trailer, it looks like Ceylan went for a very aessthetized framing composition and stationary camera (more Antonioni-like?) than what I remember from Uzak.
I'm looking forward to this one! Slated for January 17th 2007 in France...

Among the Cannes Classics selection granting a print restoration to older films, I'm particularly happy to see 2 great Eisensteins (Bezhin Meadow and Oktober), 2 Jodorowskys (El Topo, The Holy Mountain) I haven't seen yet, Duras' hypnotic India Song that I discovered recently on a very bad print, Visconti's La Terra Trema, a silent Duvivier, and 3 Carol Reeds...
Which means there will be brand new prints put in circulation after Cannes, and hopefully they will be screened in Paris soon.
I wonder what Nausicaa and Platoon are doing in there though.

Aki Kaurismaki is an anti-conformist riot! Watch his press conference and interview. He makes fun of the questions and replies with absurd jokes. Self-derision of his work and well aware of how people perceive his "boring" directing style. The actress mentions "acting" is forbidden on set and that Kaurismaki only directs them when the scene is over.

I've only seen 3 filsm in competition so far (Volver, Marie-Antoinette, Il Caimano), I might see more of them soon with the projections in Paris of the favorites of the magazine Les Inrockuptibles.

Although the Awards are a little disappointing from such a great jury... which proves the compromises made among jury members doesn't make but consensual statements.
I wish Kaurismaki and Ceylan had received some kind of support... and maybe more suprises coming from unknown auteurs.
I'm looking forward to discover RED ROAD and THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY

Patrice Leconte, french director, member of Cannes 2006 jury, reveals the backstage of the deliberation for Wong Kar-wai's awards on the radioshow CineFilms available online (french)

Leconte says the Palme d'Or was indeed unanimously decided in 15 minutes. He might have been the one who suggested the ensemble acting awards. He regrets Kaurismaki and Sorrentino didn't get a prize.
